Tanzanian leader appoints first Somali person as deputy agriculture minister

Tanzanian President, John Magufuli has appointed Hussein Mohamed Bashe as the country’s first Somali person in his cabinet.

In a statement by Tanzanian presidency, Magufuli selected Bashe as the deputy Minister for Agriculture.
Mr. Bashe is replacing Mr. Innocent Bashungwa (Karagwe – CCM) who was appointed Minister of Industry and Trade on June 8, 2019.

The minister has been Tanzania’s politics since 2006 after he joined Tanzanian CCM party.

He is serving as Member of Parliament for Nzega Urban constituency since 2015.

Bashe whose parents originally came from Somali was born 26 August 1975 in Tanzania.

His mother, Zainab Abdi, passed away at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) mid last year following a long illness.
