Somalia’s Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, ambassador, – Ahmed Issa Awad, received a high-level delegation from the organization of Islamic cooperation ( OIC) in Mogadishu on Monday.
The delegation under chairmanship of Ambassador Tariq Bakhit, Assistant Secretary-General for humanitarian, cultural and social affairs held meeting with senior Somali government officials led by ambassador Awad in his office.
The meeting focused on joint cooperation and coordination in various political and humanitarian areas, as well as support for national reconciliation, the fight against terrorism, the reconstruction of the country and the efforts of the federal government to establish security and stability across the country.
The discussions also touched on the latest political and security development as far as the regional and international issues affecting the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is concerned. OIC has a Humanitarian Coordination Office in Somalia which was in operational since 2011.
It was established to coordinate relief efforts during the 2010-11 famine. The organization held first high level conference in Mogadishu on October last year.
The meeting which was attended by 16 representatives from OIC members states was opened by Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre who said holding the meeting in Mogadishu was an evidence of a transformation that took place in the country.
