Somali cabinet has unanimously approved a salary increment for the Somali Armed Forces.
The decision was reached during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre which also endorsed USD 459.5 Million 2020 Budget.
The armed forces received a pay rise of USD 70 which will put their total monthly remunerations from next month to USD 230.
Speaking during the meeting with the cabinet, Somali PM, Hassan Kheyre said his government will continue the path towards improving the welfare of the armed forces for better security.
“We have decided to improve the quality of payment after the biometric registration process.” PM Kheyre told the cabinet.
The Cabinet has approved a draft budget of $469.5 million for 2020, an increase of nearly $130 million from last year’s budget.
The government said the increase is due to an increase in basic salary for the soldiers
2020 budget represents a 174% increase in that of 2016 that focuses on improving terms of service for our forces, enhance service delivery, meet other Government financial obligations and invest in development programs.
