SNA kills 20 al-Shabaab fighters near Bariire

Somali National Army said its forces killed 20 Al-Shabaab fighters in the country’s southern regional state, Jubbaland.

Speaking to military-owned radio, SNA force commander, Odawa Yussuf Raghe stated the fighters were killed in the clashes with the army during a foiled attack on base on the outskirt of Barire village.

According to the official, the military repelled the attack which the group’s fighters intended to the garrison.

“Somali army thwarted an al-Shabaab attack and subsequently killed eliminated 20 fighters during with our forces. there are others who fled with injuries,” he said.
The remarks of the force commander come barely hours after Somali forces recaptured two villages in southern from al-Shabaab fighters.

According to the commander of 49th platoon of SNA’s 10th battalion, Ali Mohamed Hassan, Somali military launched operations against al-Shabaab in Bardhere district.

During the operations, the forces took control of Abdi-faray and Bar-moalim village.

The liberation of villages comes on the heel of new offensives against al-Shabaab fighters in Lower Shabelle region.

Last week, Somali military liberated Aw-Dhegle town in Lower Shabelle region following a covert operation against the group.
