A well known traditional elder, Sultan Abdirashid Sultan Muse Shire has succumbed to injuries he sustained during an attack last night in Kismayo town of southern Somalia.
Two gunmen armed with pistols have reportedly attacked the elder after he left a mosque near his residence where he prayed Maqrib prayer.
The astray bullets also killed a passer-by who was walking near the assassinated elder.
The prominent elder who was fatally shot was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.
A young boy who was with the elder during the attack was also injured and is fighting for his life at the hospital.
The elder was an active peacemaker and was planning to take part in the efforts to nominate the regional lawmakers for Jubbaland state.
Kismayo is preparing for Jubbaland regional leadership election in late August.
