Turkey has condemned Sunday’s attack on Hotel Afrik in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.
The attack which started with suicide car bomb that crashed at the entrance before armed al-Shabaab fighters forced their way into the hotel claimed at least eight lives in Somalia.
In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry sent its condolences to Somali government and its people.
“We strongly condemn these terrorist attacks and extend our condolences to the brotherly people and Government of Somalia,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Somali security forces who have been battling militants for more than seven hours ended an attack and siege of Afrik hotel in Mogadishu.
The hotel, located along a strategic road linking downtown Mogadishu with the international airport, is frequented by politicians, lawmakers and senior civil servants.
The official said about 9 people among them the assailants were killed in the attack.
Among those killed in the attack was Gen Mohamed Nur Galal, a well known army general.
“The militants were four in number, one of them blew himself up at the entrance of the hotel before the attack started Sunday evening. The rest holed up in the hotel but were later eliminated by the security forces. Five civilians were also killed in the attack,” he said.
