Somali leaders have condemned the murder of close to a dozen citizens including a well known army general killed in an ongoing hotel siege in Mogadishu.
In separate statements, president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble extended condolences to families of the victims.
“We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return, I ask God to have mercy on the Somali citizens who lost their lives in this barbaric attack, and I extend my deepest condolences to family of General Mohamed Nur Galal on his death, a veteran of the Somali Army,” president Farmajo said in a Twitter post.
Gen Galal who briefly became Defense minister and army chief served the nation over four decades, According to Prime minister Roble.
”My heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the heinous terror attack in Hotel Afrik including Gen Mohamed Nur Galal who served his country for over 50 years. We must unite against terror,” the prime minister said in a statement.
Galal was an operational commander in the 1977/78 war with Ethiopia.
Somali security forces who battled militants for more than ten hours Sunday have this morning ended an attack and siege of Afrik hotel, killing three militants, According to Sadik Adan Ali, Somali police spokesperson.
