Somalia’s new Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has vowed to fight corruption within the government institutions.
The premier was speaking during visits to key economic generating sectors such as Mogadishu port and the central bank.
“The PM inspected the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and the Mogadishu Port Authority, stating that his government is committed to fighting corruption and increasing the country’s revenue.” His office tweeted.
He said the fight against corruption will boost revenue in the country that is recovering from decades of conflict.
The commitment by the Prime Minister in fighting the corruption challenge comes as the cabinet approved USD 671.8 million 2020 budget on Thursday.
2020 budget registered a 46% increase where $260 million came from domestic revenue collection.
Significant budget support was also received by the Somali federal government via the ministry of finance from key international partners including Turkey.
