Somali National Army repels al-Shabaab attack in central Somalia

Troops of Somali National Army (SNA) on Thursday night repulsed a group of Al-Shabaab fighters after a fierce gun battle in the region of central Somalia.

The group’s fighters were repulsed in town of Bulaburde town in Hiiraan region by Somali military following heavy clashes which last for an hour.

According to the military owned Radio, the group attempted to overrun a military base manned by Somali National Army but were pushed back.

Somali military officials who spoke to the radio confirmed that the forces killed several al-Shabab fighters during the fighting.

The military said there were no casualties suffered by SNA.

Officials said the forces had degraded al-Shabaab capabilities to take effective attacks in the nation.

Locals in the town also the fighting of last night but said the normalcy return to the town this morning.

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and SNA forces have been on major offensives against AL-Shabab in central and southern Somali regions.

But the militants still hold swaths of territory in those regions, conducting ambushes and planting roadside bombs.
