Somali labour minister invites Qatar to explore investment opportunities

Somali minister for Labour, Sadik Hiris Warfa has urged Qatari investors to explore Somalia’s vast opportunities following a meeting with Qatar Chamber’s First Vice-Chairman.

Minister Warfa held talks with Qatar Chamber’s First Vice-Chairman, Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari on enhancing economic relations with Qatar and to forge joint co-operation in the field of labour and skills development.

The minister called Qatari entrepreneurs to invest a number of sectors including agriculture, livestock, and fish in order to create more jobs for Somali people.

Somali Minister praised the Qatari cooperation with his country, noting that his visits aim to discuss enhancing trade relations and presenting investment opportunities available in Somalia and identifying cooperation in labourers’ qualification and developing their skills.

Warfa expressed hope that the meeting with Qatari businessmen would represent “a positive step towards enhancing co-operation between the two sides.”

Al-Kuwari said the Qatari private sector welcomes potential partnerships with Somali investors.

He said Somalia’s potential and its natural resources enable it to become an investment destination for Qataris and attract projects for a common interest and mutual benefit.

He also noted that private sector companies contributed to implementing large scale projects being executed by the country, pointing out that this opens the scope for recruiting more Somali labourers.
