Somali National Army has taken new strategic areas from the armed group al-Shabaab on Monday.
According to military officials’ troops seized Kaharey and Busley towns located at the border that separates Middle Shabelle and Lower Shabelle regions.
The commander of SNA 60th division, Colonel Ali Abdullahi confirmed the liberation of all surrounding villages that separate the two strategic agricultural regions.
Colonel Araye who spoke to state media also vowed to continue the security operations against the group in the remaining areas under their control in the region.
He said the troops destroyed arms equipment left behind the militant group while appreciating the warm reception by the local residents for his men.
The latest success by Somali troops comes just a week after the former infantry commander was promoted as chief of staff.
