The Somali National Army 27th division in the Hiran region started the water trucking process for displaced families in Beledweyne on Friday.
Hundreds of families resettled in El Jale outside the agricultural city following floods resulted from river Shabelle after a heavy torrential downpour in the region and neighboring Ethiopia in the past week.
The help comes after displaced residents appealed for clean water and pit latrines from the government in their new location.
The commander of the SNA fifth brigade of 27th division, Major Abdullahi Bare Elmi who is leading the process pledged to continue the water trucking to help affected families until the displaced citizens find another alternative.
“We have come into the rescue of our citizens lacking clean water, as armed forces it is our responsibility to provide help whenever the need arises especially during a natural disaster, “said Major Abdullahi Bare Elmi
The displaced families called for urgent humanitarian assistance especially shelters from the harsh weather.
“Water is the most important basic need but we need shelter, we do not have a good cover to take care of our children because it is raining. “said one of the displaced, Hawo Harbi.
