Somali security agencies in Kismayo, the administrative capital of Jubbaland state have arrested two suspected al-Shabaab militants during an operation in the port city.
The officers also seized a cache of weapons including explosive devices composed of grenades and other bomb-making materials such as wires and electronics during the security operation.
They said the suspects were planning terror attacks in the port city.
The officials vowed to continue the operation to improve stability.
The arrest comes a week after the port city experienced a wave of grenade attacks targeted at social areas such as restaurants.
One person was killed while seven others sustained injuries a week ago when a hand grenade was hurled at a busy restaurant in the city center.
Armed group al-Shabaab has intensified hit and run attacks since the group lost control of the key strategic areas in the southern part of the country following an offensive by the Somali National Army backed by AMISOM forces and US air support.
