Nairobi City County government has been Fumiging the busy streets of Nairobi’s Somali dominated neighborhood, Eastliegh area for the second day followed confirmation of several cases of Coronavirus.
The police have cordoned the main streets of the area including first and second avenues to space the tanker’s carrying out fumigation in the area.
Several Nairobi county fire fighting engine sprayed chemicals outside shopping malls as other vehicles moved inside the narrow streets and inside shops.
On Friday, Eastleigh business community secretary general Omar Hussein announced closure of all malls and shops to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Despite increasing numbers of positive cases in the country, life had been going on as usual in Eastleigh, where thousands crowd streets and malls for business transactions.
Nairobi’s Somali dominated neighborhood, Eastleigh is undergoing lockdown for the second day after Kenya government termed the estate as one of Coronavirus hotspot.
The neighborhood so far lost two people to virus after they tested positive for Coronavirus.
According to reliable sources in the areas, over ten people were confirmed to have contracted the disease.
Ever busy and crowded bustling with business, Eastliegh which hosts one of the busiest markets in East Africa and is home to Somalis.
Social distancing is a tall order not only because of the sea of humanity buying and selling items in malls, small shops and streets but also because of the Somali culture.
