Ethiopia Airlines to direct Jigjiga-Mogadishu flights

Ethiopian Airlines is eyeing to launch direct flights from Jigjiga, the capital city of Ethio-Somali region to the Somali capital Mogadishu.

The company’s communication officer said the airlines is preparing to direct flight between the two towns.

According to the officials, preparations to finalize immigration and customs procedures are also underway as per international standards.

The development comes barely nine months after Ethiopian Airlines made its first landing in Mogadishu after 40 years absence.

The flight, Et 377, landed at Aden Abdule International Airport on 9 November 2018 after the countries agreed to enhance their bilateral relations.

Ethiopian suspended its operations in Somalia following the outbreak of hostilities between the two countries in the late 1970s.

Currently, several airlines have joined Somalia’s lucrative air market with latest being Uganda Airlines which launched its flight to Mogadishu last Thursday.
