Somali health ministry Friday updated the country on the Covid-19 disease in the country, saying 36 more people had tested positive for the virus.
In the last 24 hours, the ministry tested 47 samples of 36 of them showed Coronavirus positive results.
In a statement, the ministry said this raised the total number of confirmed cases in Somalia, since the virus was first reported on March 16, to 216.
According to the statement, 29 of them are male while rest are female.
In terms of age distribution, 30 of the positive cases were aged between 20 and 39 (83%), five were cases were in the 40-59 age group (14%) while one person was over sixty years of age (3%).
On Tuesday this week, the country saw a spike in confirmed Covid-19 cases after 35 People tested positive for the virus.
Three of the new cases were in the breakaway region of Somaliland, while 32 others were registered in the capital Mogadishu.
Somalia registered the first case mid last month and instituted a raft of measures including banning all international flights and closing learning institutions as well as public gathering
The country with only 216 cases surpassed Ethiopia which has so far confirmed 71 cases is just behind Kenya which has 246 cases of Coronavirus.
