Deputy Governor of Middle Shabelle region, Abdullahi Shitaawe and former trade minister of Hirshabelle, Sabriye Osman have been killed while several other officials sustained after landmine hit a convoy near Bal’ad town just 30 km north of Somali capital, Mogadishu.
According to initial reports, a landmine suspected to have been planted on the roadside had destroyed one of the convoy vehicles travelling along Bal’ad-Jowhar road.
Shitawe and former trade Hirshabelle trade minister, Sabriye have died on the spot.
No group has yet claimed the responsibility for the attack.
The tragic comes barely a day after Hirshabelle state declared operation to reopen the state’s main supply routes.
