The governor of Hiran regional Ali Jeyte Osman said a pilot mistake was the main cause of the recent cargo plane crash in Beledweyne last week.
The pilot and three other crews escaped unhurt when the Kenyan registered plane transiting humanitarian supplies from Djibouti crashed landed in Ugas Khalif airport in Beledweyne on 14th July.
Speaking in Beledweyn the governor said the plane hit piles of sand at the airport during the landing process and not a donkey as reported by some media.
“We want to confirm that the crash was resulted by pilot mistake and not a donkey because the airport is fenced and no chance for the intrusion.” Governor Jeyte said.
The regional official requested the Somali aviation authority to resume operations of the facility after it was closed for investigation following the accident.
He said authorities agreed to grant permission for light aircrafts transiting emergency supplies such as food and medicine.
A team from Kenya arrived in the country last week to boost the investigation process with their Somali counterparts.
