At least two children died and three others including their mother sustained injuries after AMISOM forces allegedly shelled a village in Lower Shabelle region.
The attack happened last night at Mishini village, not far away from AMISOM’s Forward Operating Base.
A relative of the victims who spoke to the media said the victims were in their house when two motor shells landed. Those injured were rushed to Janale hospital for treatment by the locals.
It is not yet clear why the troops shelled the village but AMISOM in the region had several times came under attack by al-Shabaab fighters.
Neither the local authorities nor AMISOM officials have yet commented on the incident.
Ugandan troops under the framework of African Union Mission in Somalia have bases in Janale and several other towns and villages in Lower Shabelle region.
The forces have been backing Somali military to defeat al-Shabaab fighters for past seven years.
