Jubbaland security agencies have ended more than twelve hours’ siege by al-Shabaab militants in a Kismayo hotel on Friday.
All eight attackers were killed by the multi-agency security forces that responded during the operation.
At least 11 people were killed by the militants’ attack on Hotel As-Asey, while scores of others were wounded.
The militants find their way inside the hotel premises after a huge explosion rocked the entrance of the guesthouse.
The hotel was very popular with government officials including members of parliament and also a favorite destination for members of the Diaspora community.
Among immediately confirmed fatalities were two Somalia journalists, Somali-Canadian Journalist, Hodan Naleye and Mohamed Sahal.
Senior Somali government officials including President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre have strongly condemned the attack.
