Wadani leader calls for continued demos as police intensify crackdown

Waddani Party leader Abdirahman Irro has called on the party’s supporters to continue protests amid Somaliland police stepped up security.

Speaking to the supporters on Monday evening, Irro urged party supporters to sustain street protests.

He said the opposition party would not rest until its demands are made.

“We will keep on protesting against the injustice and blatant violation of our rights. We will not accept what this government wants to decide for us without discussion,” he said.

Somaliland Police on Monday fired in the air to disperse protesters in Hargeisa town.

Armed police barricaded Waddani Party headquarters on Monday morning a day after the party’s
Secretary-General Khadar Abdi and spokesman Barkhad Jama were arrested following the party’s call for on Monday protests.
