The Federal of Somalia has announced a delay in the resumption of local flights in the country.
According to the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Mohamed Abdullahi Omar the move is aimed at preventing new infections in various parts of the country that might be increased by the movement of people.
“We have delayed the resumptions of flights in order to prevent the spread of COVID -19 to safe areas in the country.” The Minister said.
The Minister didn’t give details on the exact date when the essential means of transport will be resumed.
The air travel both local and international were canceled in March to curb the spread of the deadly virus in the horn of the African nation but flights with basic supplies such as food and medicine will be granted special permission upon request into Somalia airspace.
The country has recorded 2658 positive cases with a death toll of 88 people so far.
The government ordered the closure of schools and implemented a curfew to control unnecessary social gatherings.
