The United Nations (UN) and international community have lauded federal parliament for endorsing Somalia’s newly appointed prime minister.
Last Friday, Mohamed Hussein Roble was appointed to replace Hassan Ali Kheire who voted out by the parliament last July.
In a statement, UN said it warmly congratulates Mohamed H. Roble on his confirmation as Somalia’s new Prime Minister.
The international organization pledged to work with the PM saying it is committed to help Somalia in different areas.
“UN wishes him success as he assumes this key leadership role at a critical moment in the country’s history, and assures him of the UN’s support, solidarity and cooperation,” the statement reads in part.
In separate statement, UK said it extended warmest congratulations to Mohamed Roble on being confirmed as Prime Minister with overwhelming support from MPs.
“Look forward to the closest collaboration on shared priorities, such as economic and security reform, tackling Al Shabaab and helping the most vulnerable,” the UK embassy in Somalia said.
Sweden also congratulated the PM, wishing him great success in his endeavours and working with him for a stable, prosperous and democratic Somalia.
PM Roble was endorsed overwhelmingly by the federal parliament on Wednesday barely six days after his appointment.
Roble got the votes of all the 215 MPs present in the House in a show of confidence by the lawmakers.
The new Prime Minister will now go ahead to appoint a council of ministers which will also require parliamentary approval.
