Unknown assailants have shot and killed a popular traditional leader and peacemaker in Mogadishu.
Hajji Shahid Kheyrdon succumbed to injuries sustained from upper part of his body following the attack in Yaqshid district in Somali capital.
The assailants escaped the scene immediately before police arrived and removed the body.
The Somali security forces later conducted investigations at the scene of the crime.
Initial reports say that the assassinated leader was an active member of SAMO political party in the country though the main reason behind the attack is unclear.
Armed group al Shabaab has previously claimed the responsibility on an attack that killed several traditional leaders that took part in the last polls in the country as election delegates.
Most of them were killed in the capital Mogadishu.
Some of the perpetrators were charged by Somali military court following arrest by the police.
