Somaliland’s opposition party, Waddani has expressed its support for Somalia in the maritime case against Somalia.
Addressing youth on Clubhouse room, the Secretary of opposition party Waddani, Khadar Hussein Abdi urged Somalis across the world to back up Somalia in the maritime case.
The oral proceedings which will run for five days will commence.
Last Month, the International Court of Justice declined Kenya’s request to delay a case for the fourth time.
The court said that despite Covid-19 guidelines on physical gatherings, “there is a possibility of a limited number of representatives of the parties to appear in person in the Great Hall of Justice, with the other representatives participating by video link.”
Somalia and Kenya are seeking a resolution on the ownership of a 150,000 square-kilometer (58,000 square-mile) area off their Indian Ocean coastline, which both countries want to explore for oil, gas and fish.
In 2014, Somalia went to court to challenge a 2009 agreement that set its maritime border along latitudinal lines extending 450 nautical miles into the sea.
