Somaliland has officially opened its diplomatic representative office in Taipei, Taiwan on Wednesday.
The official ceremony was attended by high ranking officials Republic of China (Taiwan) including foreign minister Joseph Wu.
The leader of Somaliland Muse Bihi Abdi also attended the event via video conference from his office in Hargeisa.
Ambassador Mohamed Haji will represent the interest of Hargeisa in Taipei which also opened a corresponding mission in Somaliland on August 17th.
The two sides agreed to cooperate on key areas including agriculture and technology.
China and Somalia have strongly denounced the engagement between the two unrecognized states which are still part of Beijing and Mogadishu under international law.
Through its embassy in Mogadishu, China said it will not tolerate any disrespect to its sovereignty.
“We will never allow anyone, any organization, or any political party to separate any piece of territory from China at any time or in any form.” The embassy tweeted when Taiwan opened an office in Hargeisa mid last month.
