Somaliland administration has Monday confirmed three new cases of COVID-19 in its territory.
According to the health ministry the three cases were reported in the capital Hargeysa and the other in Borama.
The minister for health Omar Ali Abullahi said the total number of cases in the unrecognized state now stands at five.
“The Ministry of Health Development examined 24 laboratory sample tests, and three COVID 19 cases were confirmed making the total cases five (5).” The minister said.
The new cases have no travel history unlike the first reported cases where a Chinese national and local citizen who travelled from UK tested positive in the port city of Berbera on March 31st.
Somaliland administration issued strict measures to combat the further spread of deadly virus.
The move includes closing of all education centres and restriction of travel as well as public gatherings.
Hargeysa recently confirmed the arrival of testing kits for the Coronavirus which will be available at the local laboratory to carry out the test instead of shipping it outside.
