The Federal Government of Somalia has welcomed the efforts by the Kingdom of Kuwait to resolve the Gulf diplomatic crisis.
The gulf states of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt imposed land, sea, and air blockade on Qatar in June 2017 for allegations of supporting terrorism.
Mogadishu through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said it hopes that the crisis will be resolved as soon as possible.
“FGS welcomes the efforts made by Kuwait and the United States of America to bridge the gap between the brothers in the Gulf countries, and we hope that it will be resolved quickly.”
Somalia took a neutral stance on the crisis three years ago despite pressure by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Mogadishu has developed close relations with Qatar and Turkey block since the crisis has begun.
In exchange, Mogadishu received support in form of humanitarian and financial assistance backed by a defense agreement from Doha in reward for the firm stance against Riyadh and Abu Dhabi’s request to sideline the tiny rich state of Qatar.
