Somalia has received ten ventilators donated by Turkish government amid the country is struggling re-emergence of Covid-19.
Turkish embassy in the capital Mogadishu on Friday said Turkish Red Crescent has donated the ventilator to the Somali Health Ministry
“The machines that have been handed over to the Somali authorities will be used in intensive care units and contribute to the fight against COVID-19,” the embassy said in a statement.
The donation of Turkish agency comes when resurgence of COVID-19 cases had hardly hit Somalia.
The country has lost several prominent persons to Covid-19 in the past week including Sheikh Nur Barood Gurhan, a well-known religious scholar and preacher, Faduma Ali alias Nakruma, a popular singer and long-term member of Waberi Band.
Others are Haji Daud Elmi Arif, a Mogadishu-based hotelier and Ugas Hassan Ugas Khalif, an influential traditional clan leader from Hirshabelle State.
COVID-19 vaccine doses are expected to begin arriving in Somalia next month.
