The report by two leading Kenyan newspapers asserting that Somalia’s intelligence agency is in cahoots with Al-Shabaab is false and misleading, Somalia said.
In a statement, Somali information ministry dismissed claims contained in this report published on Friday by The Star and The Digital Standard based Nairobi.
“The Federal Government of Somalia rejects this type of malicious attacks, and smear campaigns targeting the government and its agencies,” the statement reads in part. “Somali government noted with serious concern the spreading of false and misleading information regarding Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) published by The Star and Standard media in Kenya.”
The Statement further affirmed that NISA is committed to the war against Al -Shabaab.
“NISA takes offense to the disparaging news that is circulating throughout social media in an attempt to demean the agency,” the ministry said.
The government called for an immediate halt of the circulation and publishing of fabricated news pertaining to NISA.
“We also urge members of the public and media outlets to exercise good judgement and caution prior to sharing or publishing misleading, false and unverified information,” the ministry noted.
