Somali security forces have displayed al-shabaab intelligence official who was arrested during covert security operation in southern Somalia.
Mohamud Ahmed Hussein, the commander who leading the operation told reporters that al-Shabaab intelligence commander, Ugas Aden Mohamed was captured in Gosh village on the outskirts of Kismayo town.
“The military operation which resulted in capturing the al-Shabaab intelligence chief comes after tips off by local residents who are working the security forces,” said Hussein on Wednesday.
He lauded residents for sharing information with the army, noting their contribution have made major achievements in flushing out the fighters in several villages in Lower Jubba region.
“I hope if the cooperation between the public and the forces is enhanced, these militants will not be able to operate in this region,” he said.
Al-Shabaab has not commented on the latest development in regard to the alleged capture of the intelligence commander.
The capture of the intelligence chief comes amid Jubbaland forces backed by the national army intensified operations against al-shabaab fighters in southern Somalia.
