Somali Defense Minister visits Aw-Dhegle

Somalia’s Defense Minister, Hassan Ali Mohamed toured troops at Aw-Dhegle a recently recaptured agricultural town south of the capital Mogadishu.

The Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Minister for health and social services, Mohamed Said, Deputy Somali National Army chief, Major General, Mohamed Ali Barise and the Governor of Lower Shabelle region, Ibrahim Adan Ali Najah

The Defense Minister and his delegation had a brief meeting with Somali military officials on the security of the area that is managed by the troops since recaptured from the armed group al-Shabaab in August.

The visit follows a planned implementation of government social services in the area including health and education.

Somali national army backed by African Union peacekeepers (AMISOM) has recaptured key strategic areas along the banks of river Shabelle that were previously controlled by the armed group al-Shabaab.

In past months, the troops successfully seized Barire, Sabid, Anole, and Aw-Dhigle.

President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo made reshuffle of the country’s top security chiefs in August where youthful army officials leading the operation took over the power.
