Somali Captain hopeful for another Victory Against Weak Zimbabwe

Somali national soccer team captain, Ahmed Ali is very hopeful to beat Zimbabwe in the second leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday.

The preliminary qualifiers are set in the capital Harare today at 1600 GMT.

Somalia beat Zimbabwe Warriors 1-0 in the first leg played in the neighboring Djibouti which acted as a home for Ocean stars for years.

Captain Ahmed Ali, thanked the overwhelming support received from fans across the globe following a historic win last week.

“We are prepared and hope for better results against our opponents,” Ali said during an interview with VOA.
Already fans of ocean stars have traveled from neighboring South Africa to show their support during the crucial match.

Beating the Zimbabweans, who competed in the recent CAF Africa Cup of Nations, was all the more remarkable as it was achieved without home advantage due to security risks in Somalia.

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed was among the first to laud the team, taking to Twitter to describe their historic win as “remarkable”.

Somalia’s squad is however bolstered in the qualifiers by young promising players based in Italy, Canada, USA, Norway, Finland, England, Netherlands, and Qatar.
