The Jubbaland regional forces backed by AMISOM peacekeepers conducted security operations against the armed group al Shabaab on Tuesday in Afmadow district in the Middle Jubba region.
The operations were conducted at Mido, Harbole, and other surrounding villages along Afmadow –Kismayo road.
Residents reported clashes between the two sides as the joint forces advanced towards Kismayo in an effort to unblock the road which was under the armed group siege for years.
casualties are still unclear as no reports were issued from both sides.
These latest operations come a day after Jubaland leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam declared a new offensive to reopen the road that links the port city to Afmadow district which is crucial for the supply of humanitarian assistance as well as the movement of people and goods.
Mr. Ahmed Madobe was speaking during the graduation ceremony of Darwish paramilitary forces that will take part in the new offensive in the region.
