At least five al-Shabaab fighters were killed and several others wounded in a security operation in Bay region, a military official confirmed Friday.
According to Somali National Army’s area Operations commander Ibrahim Aden, the military forces acting on intelligence reports, raided the fighters in a village outside Dinsor town.
“We had information that they were planning to carry out an attack on SNA in Bay region so during the operation, we managed to neutralised the threat,” he said.
Ibrahim told the local media that operations to hunt down al-Shabaab fighters will be continuous.
“This was part of daily activities, our plan is to eradicate al-Shabaab fighters from this region, the group is now weakened,” the commander stated.
Al-Shabaab which controls several villages in Bay region conducts attacks against Somali military and their AU counterpart troops in Somalia.
