SNA kills al-Shabaab fighters in southern Somalia

Eight al-Shabaab fighters were on Tuesday killed after heavy clashes with Somali military in Southern Somalia.

Ali Mohamed Mohamoud, SNA’s 43rd commander said Somali forces have raided al-Shabaab base on the outskirts of Bardhere town of Gedo region.

“Our forces destroyed a base used by the militants and killed eight al-Shabaab fighters during the security operation,” he said.

According to the commanders, among the fighters killed include the militants’ operational commander in Bardhere town named Zakarie Sheikh.

Somali military has recent stepped up operations against al-Shabaab fighters in southern and central Somalia.

Al-Shabaab which once controlled large swath territories including the capital has lost many battles to Somali military, forcing the group vacate many towns in Southern Somalia.

The group still controls small towns in central and southern Somalia.
