SNA averts two car bomb attacks in southern Somalia

Somalia’s elite forces in Southern part of the country said their forces averted two car bomb attacks by defusing an improvised explosive device (IED) placed inside the vehicles.

The two vehicles, a Nissan minibus and a black small Suzuki car were found abandoned Janay-Abdalle village on the outskirts of Kismayo town.

“A major incident of car bomb blasts were averted by the forces,” a military official said. “The IEDs packed in the minibus were dismantled but those in the car had got no alternative to defuse but was exploded.”

According to the officials, the vehicles are suspected to have been made ready for attacks on Kismayo town.

The claims by the forces emerge a day after they dislodged al-Shabaab fighters from Janay-Abdalle village in Lower Jubba region.

On Sunday, a military official quoted by the state media said the forces had taken control of Janaay Abdalle located some 60 kilometers west of Kismayo. The official added ‘several’ militants were killed and others captured alive.

The capture of Janaay Abdalle adds to an increasing number of localities in the Lower Shabelle and Jubba regions which have fallen off the stranglehold of the militant group.
