The State of Qatar has strongly condemned an explosion that took place in the Lower Shabelle region in southern Somalia on Wednesday.
Six Somali armed forces members were killed after an IED hit their vehicle near Afgoye which is 30 Kilometer south of the capital Mogadishu.
The armed group has since claimed the responsibility for the attack.
In a statement issued Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the State of Qatar’s firm stance on rejecting violence and terrorism regardless of the motives and causes.
The statement expressed the condolences of the State of Qatar to the victims’ families and to the government and people of Somalia, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
Somali special forces backed by US troops foiled al-Shabaab attempted attack on Somali air force base in Balidoogle in the Lower Shabelle region. Ten militants were killed in the attack.
US Africa command said an airstrike in response to the attack at the vicinity of Kunya Barrow killed fighters.
