Somalia’s Puntland state has welcomed remarks of Prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble over the difference with president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
In a statement, Puntland state presidency said it supports the prime minister, calling on him to exercise ‘full authority’ to execute the mandate of the government.
“The Government of Puntland congratulates the Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble for his leadership of the country in the transition period, the implementation of elections and the strengthening Somalia’s of diplomatic relations around the world,” the statements
“The Government of Puntland has always believed in the rule of law as stated in Article 4, Clause 1 of the Provisional Constitution.
The statement by Puntland follows a rejection of a decree issued by President Mohamed Farmaajo.
PM Roble responded to a decree issued by President Mohamed Farmaajo Saturday night calling on his cabinet to ‘proceed with business as usual.’
On Saturday evening, President Mohamed Farmaajo issued a directive barring all government officials and public institutions from entering into new economic, political and security agreements during the electioneering period.
Farmaajo said the directive which is aimed at safeguarding the national assets and sovereignty of Somalia will remain in force until the next government is sworn in and takes office.
The president said in issuing the directive, he took into account the prevailing political situation in the country and the constitutional responsibilities of the two Houses of Parliament in ratifying agreements entered between Somalia and other countries, institutions and international companies.
