Somali government has urged its counterpart Turkish government to help the country over the challenges of the recurrent droughts.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud travelled to Turkey has held yalks with Turkish counterpart, Recep Erdogan over humanitarian and security.
In a joint conference held by the two leaders, President said they discussed deeply humanitarian situation in Somalia caused by severe drought.
“I would like to take this opportunity to call upon our Turkish brothers to support us and do what they can, as they did before. Your solidarity and support will save the lives of the Somali people and will never be forgotten,” he said.

On his part, President Erdogan pledged that his country will continue to stand with Somalia in the international arena.
According to Turkish foreign ministry, Turkey’s humanitarian and development aid to Somalia over the last decade totals more than 1 billion U.S. dollars,
Erdogan said the trade between Turkey and Somalia has grown quickly in the past years.
Erdogan visited Somalia in 2011, amid a severe drought and devastating famine as Turkey sought to increase its influence in the Horn of Africa.
The visit marked the start of Turkish humanitarian, development and infrastructure projects in Somalia.
