Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has extended condolences to the people of Turkey after an earthquake hit part of their country.
In a Twitter post, Farmajo expressed solidarity with Turkey saying Somalia shares the pain with Turkish people.
“My thoughts and prayers go out the families and survivors of #İzmir earthquake and H.E President @RTErdogan following today’s tragic event,” he said. “We share the shocks of the tremor and the tears with the Republic of Turkey and remain in solidarity with you as you salvage the situation.”
A strong earthquake hit Turkey’s western province of Izmir on Friday, killing more 19 people and leaving behind more than 450 injuries.
At a televised speech in Istanbul, Erdogan said search and rescue operations are continuing in the ruins of 17 buildings.
A 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit the Aegean Sea off Turkey’s western province of Izmir at around 1150 GMT at a depth of 16.54 km, and the epicenter was 17.26 km off the Seferihisar district.
The earthquake also affected Turkey’s neighbour, Greece.
