Somali prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble has called for unity against al-Shabaab fighters in central and southern hours after a suicide bomber targeted a police station in Somali capital.
In a twitter post, PM Roble condemned the attack, urging the public to work with government
“We must work together to fight the terrorists that prevents our people from living in peace,” Roble said.
At least six people, including Waberi police commissioner, Ahmed Bashane and Deputy Commander for Waliyow Adde Police Division Abdi Basid, were killed in blast which happened at the police station in Mogadishu’s Waberi district.
Somali police spokesman Sadik Aden Ali said that Ahmed Bashane, Waberi district police commander, and Abdi Basid, deputy commander of Waliyow Adde police division, were among those who died in the attack.
“We can confirm that the suicide bomb attack killed six people including two senior police officers, three soldiers and a neighbour and injured six others this evening so far,” Ali said.
Through a statement posted on its affiliate media, al-Shabaab group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The group often targets security forces and other government officials in Mogadishu.
