Military court sentences Kismayo hotel attacker to death +(VIDEO)

A Somali military court on Tuesday sentenced a man convicted over last July’s devastating terrorist hotel attack in Kismayo, which killed over 26 people and injured many more.

Court judge Bashir Mohamud said Dheeq Aliyow Kusow was sentenced to death after being convicted of taking part in the attack.

Al-Shabaab fighters had stormed As-asay hotel in Kismayo on 12th of July 2019, killing 26 people including two journalists and injured over 59 others.

Court said Kusow confessed of being one of the attackers that stormed the hotel.

Kusow who was also convicted of being a member of the al-Shabaab group captured by the security forces during the attack, According to the prosecution.

Court judge Bashir Mohamud said the court found the militant guilty of taking part the attack and being member of outlawed group.

The military court often carries out sentences and executions to Al-Shabaab militants and government soldiers who commit crimes despite condemnation from human rights groups including the EU.
