Mandera county assembly member has threatened to arrest and handover fugitive Jubbaland security minister, Abdirashid Janan to the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Guticha ward representative, Mohamed Ibrahim Yusuf was speaking during a debate at the county assembly over the repercussions of the clashes in the border town that displaced residents.
“We need to mobilize our people and arrest fugitive Janan and handover to the Federal Government of Somalia.” Hon. Mohamed Shukri said.
“We cannot allow this to happen and we don’t trust our government following a meeting with the county commissioner on the matter which he could not give us a clear position of the government.” He added.
Legislators from Mandera led by Governor Ali Roba have called upon the government to relocate Jubbaland forces in their county back to their country to avoid tensions along the border.
Abdirashid Janan escaped from prison in Mogadishu in January and fled to Kismayo by boat before airlifted to Nairobi.
Clashes between his militia and the Somali National Army along the border on Monday resulted in the death of five people while ten others were wounded.
According to Kenyan media, more than 30 forces from Jubbaland state surrendered to Somali security forces in Mandera after they were overpowered.
Nairobi strongly denied claims from Mogadishu over interfering in its domestic affairs terming it as baseless and fabrication.
