Mandera authorities has recorded the first two cases of COVID-19 adding to 172 the number of confirmed cases in Kenya.
Mandera Governor Ali Roba said the two cases involved two people who recently travelled from Nairobi.
According to the governor, the person’s arrived in Mandera town last week while they asymptomatic.
He said last Sunday the two presented COVID-19 symptoms and were tested before the samples were sent to Nairobi for confirmation.
“On fifth of April, 2020, at around 11 am in the morning, a call come throught our county hotline from private health facility in Mandera town indicating the presence of two person with flue like symptoms and fever, our COVID19 response team picked up the two person and isolated them at Mandera general hospital..” he said.
The results arrived Tuesday morning and were positive for the deadly global pandemic, the governor said.
” Samples were collected and sent to Nairobi, the results have just comeback this morning, the results have suddenly been confirmed the two are Coronavirus positive,” he said.
The two have now been isolated and are in stable condition, the governor said that health officials were tracing the people who may have come to contact with the two patients
The announcement by the governor comes as Kenya reported 12 seperate cases, pushing the number of COVID19 cases in the East Africa nation 172.
Kenya Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe said among the patients confirmed to have contracted are four recently travelled Tanzania, South Africa, the UAE and the USA.
