Kenya set to lose voting right at ICAO if Somalia proves airspace violation

Republic of Kenya will lose its voting right at International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) if found guilty of violating Somali airspace.

The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) filed complaint to ICAO after plane registered in Kenya directly to Sayid Mohammed Hassan International Airport in Kismayo last week.

Fokker 50 5Y-JXJ registered in Kenya breached Somali civil aviation directive that requires all international airlines to make stopover in Mogadishu before proceeding.

Somalia there wants Kenya reprimanded for not abiding by air navigation standards.

Nairobi which learnt the official complaint made to UN agency on Tuesday was offended about Somalia’s reported filing of a complaint at the UN aviation agency.

It thinks the alleged protest is just part of Mogadishu’s bid to portray Kenya as a rogue state that doesn’t follow rules.

If found guilty Kenya will be reprimanded for not abiding by air navigation standards and will risk losing voting right.

The plane which is registered under Jubba airways company arrived in Kismayo directly from Nairobi.
It was transiting Somali politicians including former regional leaders of Southwest and Galmudug state as well as several members of parliament.
