Heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters have attacked Kenyan military base in southern Somalia.
Locals in Qoqani town have confirmed an hour long fighting between Kenya forces backed by Jubbaland troops in the area and al-Shabaab fighters.
The group raided the base midday, prompting fierce fighting with the forces.
Both Kenya government and authorities in Jubbaland have not commented on the clashes.
In a statement posted on its online affiliate media, al-Shabaab claimed to killed number of Kenyan soldiers in the attack.
The attack comes barely hours after Somali elite forces raided al-Shabaab controlled village in Lower Jubba region, Killing number of al-Shabaab fighters.
Among the fighters killed in the fighting is Hassan Sufyan Qorey, a commander of al-Shabaab militants in the village.
