The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has concluded two weeks’ traffic management training for 25 Jubbaland police on Monday.
The training was meant to sharpen traffic police officers’ skills on traffic management and control the deadlocks on various roads according to AMISOM trainers.
Superintendent Victor Nahabwe, the lead trainer for AMISOM in sector six said the training will allow the police officers to apply traffic rules and regulations so as to improve security and bring order on public roads.
“The traffic management course is very important for Jubband state police officers particularly the traffic officers because it enables them to manage the traffic flow here, investigate the road traffic accidents and sensitize and work with other partners in managing traffic, so once they undergo the training we are sure or we are certain that the traffic will be managed professionally,” Superintendent Nahabwe said.
He added “The training focused on road traffic accidents, road traffic investigations, partners and stakeholders in traffic management. We are emphasizing on traffic documentation and then looked at the police traffic officers conduct, you cannot enforce traffic without being well behaved so you must be professional traffic officer and then that is when you can be a position to manage traffic”
On his side Lt. Col. Bashir Hiis Khalif, the commander of Jubbaland traffic police said the seminar on traffic management will renew the skills of the officers and will accumulate knowledge needed to perform their duties effectively.
“The trainees benefited from the topics of the training which include traffic rules, traffic accidents, the relations between the traffic police and the residents and mostly it focused on traffic acts. The traffic police are familiar with the traffic rules they have been applying for some time, but they need a seminar in form of revision that will help review their level in traffic management skiils and relationship with the people.”
