Former advisor to Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo today barred from landing in Kismaayo, the administrative capital of Jubbaland.
According to sources privy to the Somalia’s Jubbaland state has denied Abdi Ali Rage entry to Kismayo
Speaking to the media, the police commissioner in Lower Jubba region, Isack Mohamud Dogor accused Rage of attempting to fan violence in the state.
“In recent days, the security forces have been following the activities of groups led by Abdi Ali Rage inside Kismayo, these cells were trying to smuggle illegal weapons into the city to create insecurity,” the commander said.
According to the commissioner, Rage wanted to use fake name to enter Kismayo but the security agencies were tipped off.
Rage who spoke to the media dismissed the allegation, saying he was planning to talks with his clan elders in Kismayo town.
Rage reportedly wanted to launch political campaign as he eyes parliamentary seat.
On July 30, 2020, Rage was appointed his election advisor to the outgoing president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
Prior to his appointed by Farmaajo, Rage was working with Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe). He was fired on 11 April 2019.
