The Italian government on Saturday announced that it dispatched 22 tons of humanitarian aid to Somalia to support the flood-affected people in Somalia’s central regions.
In a statement, the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry said the aid was in response to the floods which has so far displaced over 300,000 people.
According to the statement, the humanitarian flight from the Italian Cooperation Service took off for Mogadishu Friday carrying relief supplies.
The supplies include tents, hygiene kits, blankets, power generators and medical kits against cholera.
Meanwhile, Turkey donated humanitarian aid to Somalia to support thousands of Somali people displaced by floods in recent months.
The life-saving assistance was delivered on Saturday by the state-run Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency.
In a statement, the Turkish Embassy in Somalia said Turkey delivered humanitarian relief supplies to the flood-affected people of Beledweyne.
The statement noted that the embassy was closely working with Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), the Turkish Red Crescent and Turkiye Diyanet Foundation.
“During the operation, approximately 250 tons of supplies have been delivered to the 35,000 displaced people. Turkey is always and will be at the forefront to assist Somalia,” the statement reads in part.
